Kenya Embassy Dismisses Reports Of New Kuwait Ban On Domestic Workers

The Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Kuwait has dismissed reports claiming that Kuwait has imposed a new ban on the recruitment of Kenyan domestic workers, clarifying that no such restriction has been introduced.
In a statement issued on June 11, the Embassy said recent media reports had wrongly interpreted Kuwait’s updated domestic labour recruitment procedures as a fresh ban targeting Kenya.
The mission explained that Kenya’s inclusion among countries currently not recruiting domestic workers to Kuwait should not be viewed as a new development, noting that the position has remained unchanged for years.
According to the Embassy, Kenya had previously suspended the deployment of domestic workers to Kuwait and the current situation is not linked to any newly enacted Kuwaiti policy.
The clarification followed announcements by Kuwaiti authorities on revised recruitment procedures affecting domestic labour sourcing from selected countries.
The Embassy emphasized that the recent administrative changes in Kuwait do not amount to a new prohibition on Kenyan workers and should not be misrepresented.
Kenyan officials indicated that engagements between the two countries on labour mobility matters continue, with discussions focusing on frameworks that support orderly and regulated recruitment.
The Embassy also noted that the clarification relates specifically to domestic worker recruitment and does not represent a broader employment restriction on Kenyans seeking opportunities in Kuwait.
