Werder Bremen have signed Karl Hein on a permanent deal

Estonian goalkeeper Karl Hein has completed a permanent move from Arsenal to Werder Bremen after the Bundesliga side activated the purchase option included in his loan agreement.

The 24-year-old spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Werder Bremen and impressed the German club’s coaching staff with a series of strong performances that convinced them to secure his services on a long-term deal.

Hein joined Arsenal from Estonian side Nõmme United in 2018 and rose through the ranks at the north London club before making his senior debut in domestic cup competitions. Although opportunities in Arsenal’s first team were limited, he remained highly regarded within the club.

Before his move to Germany, Hein enjoyed a productive loan spell in Spain with Real Valladolid, where he gained valuable top-flight experience in La Liga and established himself as one of Estonia’s leading footballers.

Werder Bremen identified Hein as a key replacement in their goalkeeping department and moved quickly to finalize the transfer ahead of the new Bundesliga season. Club officials are believed to view him as an important long-term investment.

During his time in Germany, Hein adapted quickly to the demands of the Bundesliga and earned praise for his reflexes, composure on the ball, and ability to organize the defense from the back.

Speaking after sealing his move, Hein expressed excitement about continuing his career in Bremen, describing the club’s atmosphere and supporters as major factors behind his decision to stay permanently.

The transfer marks the end of Hein’s eight-year association with Arsenal, where he developed from an academy prospect into a senior international player representing Estonia on the European stage.

Arsenal are continuing preparations for the upcoming season under manager Mikel Arteta, with several squad changes expected during the summer transfer window.

Hein leaves the Premier League side having earned recognition as Estonia’s number one goalkeeper and one of the country’s most promising football exports in recent years.
