Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has strongly defended the Finance Bill, arguing that Parliament followed due process in scrutinising and approving the legislation. He maintained that the Bill underwent sufficient debate and refinement before reaching a final vote, describing the outcome as a standard function of legislative procedure.

He was speaking when he  joined fellow leaders from the Nyanza region in Homa Bay County for a fundraising event aimed at supporting women groups in Rangwe Constituency, in a gathering that also carried strong political undertones ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said the version passed by the House reflected multiple corrections and adjustments, insisting it met required legal and fiscal thresholds. According to him, lawmakers had adequate time to assess its provisions, with many already satisfied that it contained no fundamental structural flaws.

Junet praised the Treasury leadership for what he described as a coherent fiscal framework presented to Parliament, arguing that the policy direction had been carefully structured before debate began. He suggested that even some critics privately acknowledged strengths in the final formulation.

He dismissed claims that Parliament was divided by confusion during deliberations, arguing instead that most legislators had already reached a clear position before the vote. He further claimed that opposition to the Bill was numerically limited and lacked the breadth often portrayed in public debate.

The MP also pointed to absenteeism and disengagement among some legislators during the vote, framing the passage of the Bill as relatively straightforward due to what he described as its clarity and legislative readiness.

Turning to political opposition, Junet said calls for rejection of the Bill from outside Parliament did not reflect the actual balance of opinion within the House. He argued that opposition coordination efforts were fragmented and insufficiently organised to alter the outcome.

He further linked post-vote protests to broader political mobilisation efforts, suggesting that demonstrations were not purely spontaneous but influenced by coordinated political interests. He questioned the legitimacy of some of the protest organisation, arguing that it did not represent a unified public position.

Junet also alleged that certain political actors were using constitutional grievances as tools for political advantage, insisting that Parliament had already exercised its mandate through the legislative process.

He maintained that protest movements had previously led to avoidable losses and argued that political disputes should be resolved through institutional mechanisms rather than street demonstrations. He urged a shift toward structured political engagement instead of confrontational mobilisation.

In his broader remarks, Junet referenced shifting political dynamics in parts of Nyanza, urging alignment with emerging national coalitions ahead of the 2027 political cycle. He expressed openness to broader cooperation with the ruling political formation, United Democratic Alliance, signalling evolving regional and national alliances.

He concluded by calling for political cohesion, arguing that future electoral outcomes would be determined more by structured alliances than by protest-driven momentum.
