Jubilee and PNU officials announce a new cooperation deal during a joint NEC session.

In a significant political development, the Jubilee Party and Peter Munya’s Party of National Unity (PNU) have announced a formal alliance ahead of the 2027 general election. The move signals a coordinated effort to consolidate opposition strength and present a united front against the current government.

The agreement was unveiled during a joint meeting of the National Executive Committees of both parties, where leaders outlined plans for collaboration while emphasizing that each party would retain its distinct identity. The focus, they said, would be on working together on political campaigns, grassroots mobilisation, and sharing resources.

As part of the pact, PNU officially endorsed Fred Matiang’i as its preferred presidential candidate. Party leaders praised Matiang’i’s experience in public service, pointing to his previous leadership roles and reputation for strong administrative skills as reasons he is seen as the right choice for the nation’s highest office.

Jubilee had already positioned Matiang’i as its presidential flagbearer and deputy party leader, solidifying his place at the centre of the opposition’s strategy and making the alliance with PNU a clear boost to his national profile.

The partnership is set to prioritise key regions such as Mt. Kenya, where both parties hope to expand their voter outreach and strengthen organisational presence. Joint events and coordinated mobilisation efforts are planned to ensure a cohesive campaign approach across these strategic areas.

Beyond elections, the leaders emphasised that the alliance aims to tackle broader national challenges. They highlighted economic recovery, youth employment, governance reforms, and anti‑corruption measures as central priorities that the combined parties intend to champion.

To manage collaboration, committees are expected to be formed to oversee the selection of candidates for various elective positions, ensuring coordination and fairness across the pact while maintaining party identities.

Both Jubilee and PNU indicated that the cooperation framework could grow to include other like‑minded parties in the coming months, creating a broader coalition capable of influencing the 2027 elections and national political discourse.

Political observers note that this alliance represents a significant step in Kenya’s shifting political landscape. By uniting two established parties and endorsing a single presidential candidate, the pact positions the opposition to challenge the ruling administration while presenting a coherent agenda to voters across the country.
