Isiolo South Member of Parliament, Hon. Mohamed Tupi Bidu, has passed on at Nairobi Hospital following a prolonged illness, according to his family. The news has sparked condolences from politicians and residents alike, marking a significant loss for the constituency and northern Kenya.
Hon. Tupi was first elected as MP for Isiolo South in 2022 under the Jubilee Party. Prior to his parliamentary role, he served as the first Speaker of the Isiolo County Assembly from 2013 to 2017. His tenure in politics was preceded by a long career in wildlife management and conservation, where he held positions such as Chief Game Warden in Isiolo, Maasai Mara, and Samburu.
Born and raised in Isiolo County, Tupi pursued his education locally before advancing to specialized training in wildlife management. He completed O-Level at Isiolo Secondary School, a Diploma in Wildlife at the College of African Wildlife Management, Moshi, and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Community Development from Gretsa University. His academic background reflected his dual focus on environmental conservation and community service.
During his career in wildlife management, Tupi played a pivotal role in overseeing Kenya’s key conservation areas. He served as Acting Warden in Isiolo, Senior Warden in Isiolo County, and Chief Warden in Maasai Mara and Samburu National Reserves. His contributions helped enhance wildlife conservation programs and strengthened local community involvement in environmental stewardship.
As an MP, Hon. Tupi was active in parliamentary committees including Administration & Internal Security, Agriculture & Livestock, and Environment, Forestry & Mining. He advocated for infrastructure development, environmental protection, and sustainable community projects in Isiolo South, earning him recognition as a dedicated representative who balanced local needs with national priorities.
The Parliament of Kenya confirmed his death in Notification No. 10 of 2025, and political leaders from across the country have expressed condolences. His passing is mourned not only for his legislative work but also for his humility, integrity, and long-standing commitment to his constituents.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced, but the people of Isiolo South are grieving the loss of a leader who left a lasting impact on both the community and Kenya’s conservation efforts. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un — “Surely we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.”
