Imagine a world where your potential is constantly overshadowed by assumptions of what you can't do. This is the reality for most women and girls with disabilities, who are all too often pushed to the edges of society.

They are caught in a complex web of discrimination, with their voices muffled and their achievements disregarded. International Women's Month provides an important chance to change this narrative, to honor their strength, and to advocate for their fundamental rights.

While legal frameworks for disability rights have improved, there is a large gap between policy and lived experience, particularly among women and girls.

Women and girls with disabilities are routinely denied equitable employment and economic opportunities, creating cycles of poverty and reliance.
According to an article from Light for the World, there are strategies for dealing with this type of discrimination such as addressing and mitigating the effects of established gender roles. Traditional gender roles reinforce damaging assumptions and can lead to increased social exclusion for women and girls with disabilities.
Men with and without disabilities should be encouraged to work together as allies to advocate for women and girls with disabilities.

Secondly, schooling should specifically target women and girls with disabilities; they are given less importance in school attendance, and as a result, they earn inferior educational outcomes. It is crucial to work with parents and communities to emphasize the importance of education for these girls.

Also Promote Economic Empowerment Through Fair Employment Practices, due to limited educational opportunities and discriminatory gender expectations, women with disabilities face significant barriers to employment. To address this, we must develop programs that equip them with the necessary skills for the workforce. Additionally, we should advocate for policies that prioritize their hiring and provide essential social support.

Lastly, ensure Inclusion during emergencies  in times of crisis, such as wars or natural disasters, women and men with disabilities are often overlooked. They face a heightened risk of violence and are frequently unable to access essential services. To prevent this, all aid programs, including food distribution and healthcare, must be designed to be accessible to everyone, ensuring their needs are met during these challenging times.

Women and girls with disabilities are not defined by limitations. They are powerful agents of change, contributing invaluable perspectives and skills to our societies. By dismantling barriers and fostering inclusion, we create a world where their strength is recognized, their voices are heard, and their rights are upheld. Happy Women's Month!
