Former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has opened up on the club’s long-standing struggles during decisive moments of Premier League title races, admitting that nerves often crept in during the business end of the season. Speaking in comments carried by Sky, the French forward looked back on his time at the Emirates with honesty and reflection.

“Usually, we used to get nervous around February and March,” Giroud said, pointing to a recurring issue that undermined Arsenal’s title ambitions during his spell at the club. He suggested that despite strong starts, maintaining composure and consistency late in the season proved difficult.

Giroud specifically referenced the 2015–16 campaign, one of Arsenal’s most painful missed opportunities in the modern era. “I remember when Leicester won the title in 2016 we collapsed a little bit in that time,” he added, recalling the season when the Gunners were widely expected to capitalise but fell short as Leicester City completed their historic triumph.

Despite those frustrations, the former France international expressed goodwill towards his old club and optimism about their current prospects. “Hopefully (they win the title),” Giroud said, before adding: “I wish them.”

Giroud spent six seasons at Arsenal between 2012 and 2018, scoring over 100 goals and winning multiple FA Cups, but the Premier League title eluded him during that period. His comments come as Arsenal continue to be involved in another title race, with hopes among fans that lessons from the past can help avoid a familiar late-season collapse.
