Gachagua Accuses Ruto Administration of Targeting Mt. Kenya Region at Emotional Funeral Service

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua delivered a fiery address during a tense requiem mass for James Muigai and Zachariah Gakinya in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County. The two men lost their lives during recent violent clashes involving alleged state-backed goons and special police units deployed to the region.
Addressing the bereaved families, church leaders, and local residents, Gachagua expressed deep sorrow over the deaths, emphasizing that the victims did not die of natural causes or traffic accidents. He explicitly blamed President William Ruto for orchestrating targeted violence to intimidate and harass the local population, describing the attack as part of a broader pattern of state persecution aimed at the region.
Gachagua cataloged various grievances against the current regime, asserting that the administration has actively worked to economically and politically marginalize Mt. Kenya. He pointed to mass dismissals of regional officers from the military, police, and Kenya Revenue Authority, as well as the demolition of properties in Nairobi and the deliberate withholding of payments to local contractors.
Drawing historical parallels, Gachagua warned the President that the local community has a long history of resisting oppression, pointing to past struggles against British colonial rule and former President Daniel arap Moi's 24-year regime. He declared that the bloodshed in Ol Kalou had fully radicalized the population against the current administration.
In a direct message regarding financial influence, Gachagua dismissed efforts by the government to win back the region through monetary incentives. He asserted that financial resources hold no value to the community when they are tainted with the blood of innocent citizens, maintaining that no amount of state expenditure could alter their resolute stance.
Gachagua also sharply criticized police conduct, directly disputing assertions by ministry officials regarding police integrity. He accused specific rogue officers, allegedly deployed by high-ranking political figures, of executing violence under the guise of maintaining law and order while being protected through swift transfers.
To channel the region's grief and anger, Gachagua called upon local musicians and artists to compose resistance songs, drawing inspiration from past political protest movements. He urged the community to express their pain through music while maintaining peace in their daily lives, ensuring the message that the community is under siege reaches every household.
Looking ahead to political action, Gachagua announced the launch of a coordinated campaign intended to purge politicians allied with the ruling coalition from leadership positions across Mt. Kenya. He urged residents to reject candidates affiliated with the ruling party and align exclusively with new political movements across all elective seats, from local representatives to the presidency.
Reassuring the grieving families of ultimate justice, Gachagua emphasized that criminal acts carry no expiration date. He promised that all police officers, local administrators, and officials involved in the Ol Kalou killings and church invasions would eventually face full legal accountability under a future administration.
