FCBarcelona won this season's La Liga title on Sunday with a 2-0 win over RealMadrid in the Camp Nou

FC Barcelona were crowned 2025-26 La Liga champions after defeating arch-rivals Real Madrid CF 2-0 in a high-stakes El Clásico clash at the Spotify Camp Nou on Sunday night. The victory handed the Catalans an unassailable lead at the top of the table with only a few matches remaining in the season.

The title triumph marked Barcelona’s 29th La Liga crown and secured back-to-back league championships under German coach Hansi Flick. The former Bayern Munich manager has transformed the side into one of Europe’s most dominant teams since taking charge.

Barcelona made a dream start to the contest and stunned the visitors in the ninth minute when Marcus Rashford curled a superb free-kick into the top corner after Ferran Torres had been fouled just outside the penalty area. The goal sent the packed stadium into wild celebrations.

The home side doubled their advantage moments later through Ferran Torres after a brilliant attacking move involving Dani Olmo and Fermín López. Olmo’s clever backheel assist opened up the Madrid defence before Torres smashed the ball past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Despite missing several key players, Barcelona controlled possession for long spells and pressed aggressively across the pitch. Real Madrid struggled to find rhythm and failed to create enough clear opportunities to mount a serious comeback.

Madrid entered the clash needing victory to keep their fading title hopes alive, but the visitors looked overwhelmed by Barcelona’s intensity and movement. Vinícius Júnior and Jude Bellingham were largely kept quiet by a disciplined Barça defence.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois prevented an even heavier defeat after producing several crucial saves throughout the match. Barcelona, however, remained composed and defensively solid as they comfortably protected their two-goal advantage until the final whistle.

The emotional night carried extra significance after reports emerged that coach Hansi Flick had lost his father only hours before kickoff. Barcelona players dedicated the victory and title success to their manager following the match.

Captain Pedri praised the squad’s mentality and consistency throughout the season, while Frenkie de Jong described winning the league against Real Madrid at home as one of the club’s most special achievements in recent years.

The triumph also strengthened Flick’s growing reputation in El Clásico fixtures. Since arriving in Spain, the German tactician has enjoyed remarkable success against Madrid and quickly earned admiration from Barcelona supporters.

For Real Madrid, the defeat capped a disappointing domestic campaign and intensified questions surrounding the club’s future direction. Barcelona, meanwhile, celebrated long into the night as thousands of fans flooded the streets of the Catalan capital to mark another memorable La Liga triumph.
