Venezuela’s President Maduro and his wife arrested by American personnel to face criminal charges in United States
Multiple explosions rocked Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, in the early hours of Saturday, sparking fear among residents and sharply escalating already strained relations between Venezuela and the United States.
Residents reported loud blasts, flashes of light and low-flying aircraft over several parts of the city, while power outages were reported near key areas, including zones close to military installations.
The Venezuelan government said the explosions struck both civilian and strategic locations in Caracas and neighbouring states, describing the incidents as coordinated attacks during a period of heightened geopolitical tension.
In response, authorities declared a state of emergency, placing security forces on high alert and ordering the mobilisation of defence units nationwide as investigations into the explosions began.
The crisis deepened after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the United States had carried out strikes in Venezuela, claiming the operation targeted key sites in and around the capital.
Trump further claimed that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured during the strikes and flown out of the country, though no independent confirmation of the claim was immediately available.
Venezuelan officials strongly rejected the U.S. statements, accusing Washington of aggression and violating national sovereignty, while urging citizens to remain calm amid the unfolding situation.
The developments have raised international alarm, with analysts warning that the rapidly evolving crisis could have serious implications for regional stability as global leaders closely monitor events in Venezuela.
