Eriksen Stable After Collapse During Denmark Friendly Against Ukraine

Christian Eriksen is conscious and in stable condition after collapsing during Denmark’s international friendly match against Ukraine on Sunday, June 7, in Odense. Danish football authorities later confirmed that the midfielder responded positively after receiving emergency treatment on the pitch and was transferred to hospital for further medical assessment.
The incident occurred in the 65th minute with Denmark leading 2–1. Television footage showed Eriksen appearing uncomfortable moments before suddenly falling to the ground during open play. Medical personnel immediately rushed onto the field as players from both teams formed a protective circle while treatment was administered.
Denmark’s medical team later reported that Eriksen briefly lost consciousness but regained awareness quickly. Team doctor Morten Boesen confirmed that the player was responsive shortly after treatment and was able to walk to the ambulance before being taken for additional examinations and observation.
Doctors also indicated that Eriksen’s implanted cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), fitted following his previous cardiac emergency, appeared to operate as expected during the incident. Further tests are being conducted to determine the precise cause of the collapse and guide any next medical decisions.
Following the emergency, match officials abandoned the international friendly. Players and staff from both Denmark and Ukraine left the pitch together as concern spread throughout the stadium and attention shifted entirely to Eriksen’s condition.
The scenes immediately revived memories of Eriksen’s widely documented medical emergency during the European Championship in 2021, when he suffered cardiac arrest on the field before making a remarkable return to professional football after recovery and medical clearance.
Denmark head coach Brian Riemer and captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg praised the quick response of medical teams and thanked players from both sides for maintaining calm during the incident. Officials also confirmed that Eriksen later communicated with teammates after arriving at hospital.
By Monday, Denmark’s football authorities reported encouraging signs in Eriksen’s recovery. Medical staff said he remained stable and continued undergoing routine assessments as the football community awaited further updates on his condition and eventual return timeline.
