Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike has welcomed the arrival of Alexander Isak, saying competition for places is part of playing for a top club. The French striker, who joined the Reds from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer, stressed that he is ready to embrace the challenge.

“When you play for the best teams, you expect to be competing with the best players,” Ekitike said. “Isak is a player I’ve watched too, so seeing him arrive is a pleasure. It’s going to be tough competition, but I’m going to focus on performing well so that it’s a problem for the manager.”

Ekitike has started his Liverpool career brightly, scoring three goals in his first four appearances. Despite his good form, the arrival of Isak, who joined for a British-record £125 million fee, will intensify the battle for a starting spot in Jürgen Klopp’s side.

Isak’s signing makes him the most expensive player in British football history, while Ekitike ranks as the club’s third-most costly addition of the summer, behind Isak and German midfielder Florian Wirtz. The duo are expected to lead Liverpool’s attacking line as the team aims to compete strongly on all fronts this season.
