Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has assured that the government will protect The Nairobi Hospital in the same manner it safeguards other Level 6 referral facilities across the country.
Duale said the Ministry of Health is committed to ensuring the hospital continues operating smoothly despite governance concerns that have emerged in recent weeks. He emphasized that the institution plays a critical role in delivering specialized medical services to Kenyans and patients from the wider region.
The CS noted that Level 6 hospitals form the top tier of the country’s referral system, providing advanced treatment, specialized diagnostics and training for healthcare professionals. He said protecting such facilities is essential for maintaining stability in the health sector.
Duale indicated that the ministry is reviewing governance issues linked to staff conduct at the hospital to ensure they are addressed within the law and established professional frameworks. He stressed that disciplinary matters should follow due process and institutional regulations.
According to the CS, the government’s primary concern is to prevent internal disputes from disrupting healthcare delivery or affecting patient safety. He added that maintaining uninterrupted services in major referral hospitals remains a priority for the ministry.
Duale also underscored the need for professionalism, accountability and ethical conduct among health workers and administrators. He said strong governance systems are necessary to maintain public confidence in major healthcare institutions.
The CS further stated that the Ministry of Health will engage the hospital’s management and relevant regulatory bodies to resolve emerging issues. He said collaboration between government agencies and hospital leadership will be key to stabilizing governance structures.
Duale reiterated that the ministry respects the autonomy of private and faith-based health institutions but will intervene where necessary to safeguard national health interests and ensure proper standards are upheld.
He concluded by assuring patients and staff that the government remains committed to protecting leading referral hospitals and strengthening oversight across the healthcare sector to support quality and reliable medical services.
