Olympique Marseille’s hopes of signing Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid have officially collapsed after the midfielder failed to give a final commitment on the transfer.
Talks between the two clubs were at an advanced stage on Tuesday night, with Marseille confident of closing the deal. However, Ceballos requested more time to reflect on his future, forcing negotiations to stall at a critical point.
Marseille gave the Spanish international a 12-hour deadline to respond, but with no decision forthcoming, the French side chose to walk away. Club officials have now shifted focus to other midfield targets as they race against time to strengthen their squad before the transfer window closes.
Ceballos, 28, remains under contract with Real Madrid, though his long-term role at the Bernabéu remains uncertain. Despite showing glimpses of quality in recent seasons, he has struggled to secure a consistent starting role in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.
The collapse of the move means Marseille must look elsewhere, while Ceballos faces fresh uncertainty over whether he will stay in Madrid or pursue another opportunity before the summer window shuts.
