Cucurella Highlights Premier League Financial Edge Over La Liga

Marc Cucurella has praised the Premier League for its financial structure, arguing that its distribution of funds gives even newly promoted teams the resources to compete at a high level.
“I don't know the exact reason, but I think the distribution of funds in England is more equitable. Even newly promoted teams receive significant funding, allowing them to sign quality players. Sunderland, for example, invested €200 million, while Crystal Palace managed to sign two of La Liga's best talents, Yeremy and Uche,” Cucurella said. “This is what makes every Premier League match feel competitive. La Liga needs to improve this situation, or it will fall further behind.”
The Spanish defender, who currently plays for Chelsea, also reflected on the global appeal of Spain’s top clubs. “Ultimately, only Real Madrid and Barcelona can truly compete with Premier League clubs. When I first joined Brighton, I was surprised to see English players dreaming of playing for Madrid or Barcelona, rather than Arsenal or Chelsea. That's when I realized how much global appeal Madrid and Barça have,” he added.
Cucurella’s comments underline the widening financial and competitive gap between England’s Premier League and Spain’s La Liga, highlighting the challenges Spanish clubs face in matching the Premier League’s global reach and investment.
