Chelsea produced a stunning attacking display to dismantle League One side Port Vale 7–0 in the FA Cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge, booking their place in the semi-finals at Wembley. The result was emphatic from the outset as the Premier League outfit overwhelmed their lower-division opponents in front of a crowd of 38,375 spectators in west London on Saturday evening.

The Blues set the tone inside the first two minutes when Jorrel Hato fired home from close range, punishing a hesitant Port Vale defence and silencing any hopes of a cup upset early on. The goal was the catalyst for what became a relentless display of dominance by the home side.

Chelsea’s pressure paid dividends again in the 25th minute when João Pedro slotted home after a neat build-up, doubling the lead and underscoring the gap in quality between the teams. Just before halftime, what would have been a goal for captain Cole Palmer was credited as an own goal by Port Vale’s Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel, putting the Blues 3–0 ahead at the interval.

The visitors, who had enjoyed a surprising Cup run to reach their first quarter-final in over seven decades, struggled to contain Chelsea’s movement and intensity throughout the match. Their fairytale story, which included a shock win over Sunderland in the previous round, came to an abrupt end as the Blues continued to pile on the pressure after the break.

Shortly after the restart, Tosin Adarabioyo rose highest to head home Chelsea’s fourth from a well-worked delivery, and the rout continued when Andrey Santos nodded in from a corner in the 69th minute. Ten minutes later, Estêvão added a fifth goal of his own with a composed finish to leave Stamford Bridge in raptures.

With the game already beyond doubt, Chelsea were awarded a penalty deep into stoppage time. Alejandro Garnacho stepped up to convert, sealing the 7–0 scoreline and recording one of the club’s biggest margins of victory in FA Cup quarter-final history.

The victory provides a much-needed boost for head coach Liam Rosenior, whose side had endured a difficult run of form in recent weeks, including a Champions League exit and a string of league defeats. Progressing to the semi-finals offers a chance to salvage their season and chase silverware at Wembley later in April.

Off the field, Chelsea were without midfielder Enzo Fernández, who was suspended by the club and watched from the sidelines amid disciplinary issues relating to comments about his future. His absence did little to blunt the hosts’ ruthless performance on the pitch.

For Port Vale, the scoreline was a harsh conclusion to an admirable Cup journey that captured the imagination of their fans. Manager Jon Brady acknowledged earlier in the contest that his side had made defensive errors, but remained proud of their run as they now turn their focus back
