Tanzania began their CHAN 2024 campaign with an impressive 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso in their Group B opener played on Friday night. The home side thrilled fans with a confident display at the packed stadium. Abdul Suleiman opened the scoring with a penalty in first-half stoppage time after Burkina Faso’s F. Tologo committed a foul in the box.
The Taifa Stars extended their lead in the second half when Mohamed Husseini converted a fine pass from M. Yahya in the 71st minute, sealing the result. Husseini’s dominant performance earned him the Player of the Match award with a standout rating of 9.5. Burkina Faso made four second-half substitutions but could not break Tanzania’s defensive structure.
Tanzania now leads Group B and will head into their next fixture with confidence. The victory sets a positive tone for the hosts as they aim to make a deep run in this year’s African Nations Championship.
