Fenerbahçe have officially dismissed José Mourinho with immediate effect after the team failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League group stages. The decision comes just two games into the new season, ending Mourinho’s brief spell in Istanbul far earlier than expected.
The club confirmed that an interim coach will take charge while they search for a permanent replacement. According to reports in Turkey and Europe, three main candidates are already being considered. Former boss İsmail Kartal is seen as the front-runner after his successful previous spell with the club. Sergen Yalçın, a respected figure in Turkish football and former Fenerbahçe player, is also in contention. Meanwhile, ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzić has emerged as an outside but intriguing option.
Fenerbahçe will now be looking to stabilise their season domestically and in Europe, with pressure mounting to bring in a strong replacement quickly to appease fans and keep the squad focused after Mourinho’s shock exit.
