Mikel Arteta has revealed that he watched Arsenal’s 3–2 defeat to Manchester United in full twice to analyze his team’s mistakes and better understand what went wrong. The Arsenal manager admitted that accepting the result was tough, despite his squad giving their usual effort.
“No one can be blamed—neither for attitude, effort, nor commitment. That’s not the issue. It was a truly strange match,” Arteta said, reflecting on the unexpected nature of the game.
The Spaniard emphasized that the defeat was not due to lack of intensity or mentality from his players. “After watching it twice, accepting that we lost that game was tough. Did we deserve to lose? Only for one reason: the effectiveness they [United] had,” he added, highlighting that fine margins and United’s clinical finishing decided the outcome.
Arteta also held an open meeting with the squad the day after the match, giving players the opportunity to discuss the game openly and process the loss together. Sources describe the meeting as constructive, with Arteta encouraging reflection without blame.
