Algeria made a powerful statement in their opening Group C fixture of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), thrashing Uganda 3-0 at a match played on August 4. The North Africans took control early, with A. Ghezala opening the scoring in the 36th minute after a fine assist from A. Meziane, sending Algeria into the break with a 1-0 lead.
The second half saw Algeria extend their dominance. A. Meziane doubled the advantage in the 76th minute, finishing off a move initiated by M. Merbah, before S. Bayazid added the third just three minutes later to seal the comprehensive win. Uganda struggled to respond, managing only a few sporadic attacks without threatening the Algerian defense.
Algeria’s Abderrahmane Meziane was deservedly named Player of the Match for his influential performance, which included a goal and an assist. The victory puts Algeria in a strong position in Group C as they aim for a deep run in the tournament, while Uganda faces an uphill task to revive their hopes in the upcoming matches.
