Youths In Western Counties Prepared To Support fight Against Violent Extremism
Youth in Kakamega and other western Kenya counties have been prepared to disseminate behavior change messages targeting groups at risk of being radicalized.
Youth Art Development and Entrepreneurship Network(YADEN) East Africa is collaborating with Champions of Peace, Smart Development Solutions (SDS), and local administrators to capacity-build youth and Civil Society Organizations to counter potential drivers that put youth at risk of being radicalized.
Some of the drivers identified were lack of critical thinking, indulgence in drugs, illiteracy, bitterness among others.
YADEN’s senior program Officer Harrison Okwatuche said that, the youth will meet communities in the village and engage them with an aim of changing their mindset to think positively.
The program is being implemented in 10 counties of Western and Nyanza regions which are at high risk of Violent Extremism and Radicalization.
The program was domesticated from the National Strategy to Counter Violent Extremism and Radicalization.
