VfB Stuttgart have opened discussions with Arsenal over a permanent move for Portuguese attacking midfielder Fabio Vieira, according to reports.
The Bundesliga side have approached the Premier League club with a view to signing the 25-year-old on a full-time basis, as they look to bolster their creative options ahead of the new season.
Vieira spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at FC Porto, but the Portuguese giants have reportedly informed Arsenal that they cannot afford a permanent deal. Despite being keen to retain the player, Porto are understood to be priced out of a move due to Arsenal’s valuation.
Signed by the Gunners from Porto in 2022 for a fee believed to be around €35 million, Vieira has struggled to cement a regular starting place under Mikel Arteta. He has made just 49 appearances and scored 3 goals during his time in North London.
Arsenal are now prepared to let Vieira leave the Emirates permanently this summer, but are holding out for a fee close to what they initially paid three years ago. Stuttgart, who qualified for the UEFA Champions League after a remarkable 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign, are aiming to strengthen their squad with proven technical talent and see Vieira as a strong fit.
The German club’s interest marks a significant development, especially given the lack of viable offers that meet Arsenal’s asking price so far. It remains to be seen whether Stuttgart will be willing — or able — to meet the financial terms required to secure the Portuguese international’s services.
Negotiations are ongoing, and more clarity is expected in the coming days as both clubs continue discussions.
