One in Ten Young Men in Nairobi Affected by Erectile Dysfunction, Report Finds

A January 2026 health report has revealed that approximately one in every ten young men living in Nairobi is struggling with erectile dysfunction, highlighting a growing but largely unspoken public health concern in the capital.
The findings are based on a recent survey conducted by health researchers in collaboration with local medical institutions, focusing on men aged between their late teens and mid-30s in urban settings.
According to the report, erectile dysfunction is no longer an issue confined to older men, with a noticeable rise among younger adults attributed to changing lifestyles and increased psychosocial pressure.
Health experts involved in the study link the condition to a combination of factors, including high stress levels, anxiety, sedentary habits, poor diet, and limited physical activity common in fast-paced urban life.
The report also notes that excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, and substance use among young men may be contributing to the rising prevalence of erectile difficulties.
Medical professionals warn that erectile dysfunction can sometimes be an early indicator of underlying health problems such as cardiovascular disease, hormonal imbalances, or metabolic disorders.
Despite its prevalence, the condition remains widely underreported, with many young men reluctant to seek medical help due to stigma, embarrassment, or cultural taboos surrounding sexual health.
Doctors are urging affected individuals to pursue professional medical advice, emphasizing that early diagnosis can lead to effective management through lifestyle changes, counselling, or appropriate medical treatment.
The report calls for increased public awareness and open discussion on men’s sexual health, stressing the need for preventive health education and accessible services to address the issue before it escalates into a broader health crisis.
