Kisii County IDPs Compensation Funds On Spot
A faction of 2007/2008 Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) from the Gusii region has alleged embezzlement of compensation money from the state by cartels.
The faction which filed a case in a Kisii court among others, against the Devolution ministry, however, declined to have it consolidated.
Rev. Nemuel Momanyi, the patron of Kisii and Nyamira IDPs, claimed the National government released Ksh. 6.5 billion for their compensation countrywide where each household received sh. Ksh. 50,000.
According to the patron, 9,000 IDPs from Kisii county were paid the same as their 7,000 counterparts from Nyamira county from a total of the targeted 23,000.
But the balance for 7,000 IDPs was pocketed by cartels, he further claimed.
Momanyi who addressed the media outside the court also alleged the money was paid to non-deserving people by the busy bodies who were bent on bringing to a close the compensation programme.
The IDPs compensation issued by the national government from the larger region had been dragging on for several years.
Emerging groups had sprouted and filed petitions against different government ministries in courts to press for state support and resettlement.
This was despite an announcement by the government in 2017 that the programme had been concluded.
