The Breakfast Show, hosted by Alan Herbert, recently provided a platform for a crucial discussion with Dr. Ed Barnett, the acting British High Commissioner.
The focus of their conversation was the critical necessity of prioritizing disability inclusion into every facet of the UK–Kenya partnership.
Dr. Barnett emphasized that the UK-Kenya commitment to disability inclusion must be comprehensive, extending from high-level policy formulation right down to essential service delivery, particularly regarding digital access through the Digital Access Program (DAP).
The Digital Access Program (DAP), is an initiative supported by KICTANet and the British High Commission, designed to promote digital skills, foster inclusion, and lay the groundwork for a sustainable digital economy across the country.
His emphasis is reflected in the DAP's ongoing implementation in Busia and Mandera counties, where, to champion disability inclusion, the program has gone a step further by strategically integrating the assistALL platform.
This integration has provided a tangible and immediate benefit where free virtual sign language interpretation services are now available throughout Busia County at eight sub-county hospitals, as well as the main referral hospital, thereby ensuring better healthcare access for the Deaf community.
