CS Ababu Attends Late Kiptum’s Coach Hakizimana’s Burial

Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba attended and paid his respects at the burial of the late Kevin Kiptum's head coach Gervais Hakizimana in Kigali, Rwanda.

Namwamba was accompanied by several ministry officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Sports Jackson Indakwa for the burial held Wednesday afternoon at the Rusororo Public Cemetery.

Making his remarks, CS Ababu noted that the government has donated Sh5mn to the family of the late Hakizimana.

“As a government and the people of Kenya, we are here to condole with you and I bring the condolence of our President H.E. William Samoei Ruto and the people of Kenya,” sports CS Ababu Namwamba said during the burial service.

“We shall remember them eternally for the huge contribution they made to Kenya, East Africa, Africa and the world at large,” he added.

The 36-year old Hakizimana passed away with Kiptum on the 11th of this month after they were involved in a fatal road accident near the Kaptagat Forest.

He has been coaching Kiptum since 2019. Helping him achieve the fastest ever marathon debut in Valencia in 2022, before he set the world record in Chicago last year.
