Brazil stun S. Korea set up Croatia clash
Brazil cruised to the quarter-finals of the World Cup after a top first-half performance helped them to a 4-1 win over South Korea on Monday night.
Vinicius Junior scored the opener in the 7th minute before Neymar added the second 5 minutes later, through a penalty on his return from injury moving him one goal behind Pele’s international record of 77.
Richarlison found the net to put in his third goal of the tournament at the 29th minute and it was 4-0 before the break with Lucas Paqueta guiding his shot between the posts.
Brazil, meanwhile, advance to the last eight of the tournament, setting up a clash with Croatia on Friday afternoon.
Elsewhere, Croatia have reached the World Cup quarter-finals after beating Japan 3-1 on penalties - including three saves from Dominik Livakovic during the shootout - following a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes.
Daizen Maeda (43) gave Japan the lead in the first half after poor Croatian defending, before Ivan Perisic's powerful header levelled shortly after the restart.
