Mombasa KPSA Wants Gov’t To Address CBC Reforms

Mombasa county Kenya Private Schools Association [KPSA] now wants the government to address a few areas in the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) reforms before implementation takes place.

Led by the KPSA Chairman Dr. Elisha Mwango who was accompanied by the association county Assistant Secretary Rukiya Abafae on Thursday presented their recommendations and views to the Presidential Working Party on Education and specifically the CBC.

While meeting the team on education reforms at the Coast Girls High School in Mombasa county they admitted to having been in support of the CBC system before it was rolled out in schools.

Mwango asked the government to address grey areas in the CBC before its implementation.

“Let the government recognize the importance of a good working relationship with the association,” he said.

Leila, who is Vice Chancellor at the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) and who was with Prof Hassan Mwakimako, Paul Lilan, and Jane Kimili, told the media that they intended to see what was on the ground apart from reading and seeing from the mainstream media or social media.

She confirmed at the end of the day’s session they will head to Kilifi county to continue with the exercise.

The 42-member task force appointed by President William Ruto to evaluate the country’s Education system and come up with recommendations began conducting public participation forums on Monday.

On Monday and Tuesday, the team was in Nyandarua where the public was allowed to give their contributions to the proposed review.
Among counties already covered include Kwale, Taita, Nyandarua, Turkana, Kericho, Busia, Mandera, Migori, and Samburu.

According to President Ruto, the exercise has been allocated six months, and will be required to submit to him a progress report every two months from the date of their appointment.
