The 65th  Grammy awards ceremony was held on Sunday, 5th February, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. It was hosted for the third time by comedian Trevor Noah.

The annual event that recognizes the best recordings, compositions and artists bore witness to a few historical moments.

Beyoncé Knowles -Carter took home four Grammys,  bringing her total to thirty-three. She has broken the record for the most Grammy wins in history! Her tiktok hit Cuff won best RnB song, break my soul for Best Dance/Electronic Recording, and Renaissance for Best Dance/Electronic Album.

World renowned actress, Viola Davis won a Grammy for her memoir Finding me. This  officially earns her an EGOT status; a status given to  Emmy ,Grammy, Oscars and Tony winners. Viola becomes the third black woman in history to hold this status and eighteenth person of all time.

Seven-time Grammy award winner, Dr. Dre was the recipient of the inaugural Dr. Dre Global Impact award for his achievements through his multi-decade career.

The eligibility for this year’s award run from 1st October 2021 to 30th September 2022.

Other winners include Adele for her hit song Easy on me, Lizzo for Record Of The Year, Harry Styles for Album Of The Year, Kendrick Lamar for Rap album of the year,  Taylor Swift for her all too well music video, Sam Smith and Kim Petras for Best Pop Duo with Unholy and Maverick City for Contemporary Christian Music with Breathe.

Animated musical fantasy Encanto won three awards for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual media, Best Score for Visual Media and Best song for the song that was stuck in our heads for the better part of 2022, We don’t talk about Bruno.

There were however, a few sore losers, who didn’t take not winning lightly. Chris Brown went on a rant for not winning Best RnB album, as well as Burna Boy who lost Best Global Music Album and Best Global Music Performance.
